Solid inlay opal is a contemporary method of setting opals into jewellery. In essence, a piece of solid light opal is cut into shape to fit into an indented area of the jewellery. The opal is then bonded to the metal before being polished together, to create a smooth, continuous contour on the jewellery.
At Opals Australia, we use quality crystal opals as the basis of our solid inlay jewellery; our expert jewelers handle each and every piece of solid inlay jewellery with care and precision, to ensure that the unique look and feel of this type of jewellery is preserved.
The uniqueness of this manufacturing process means that designers are able to design with more freedom than for normal calibrated and freeform opals. The compactness of the opal also allows precious opals to be used on thinner and more contoured surfaces, thus significantly increasing design flexibility.
As this method allows for the use of small and irregular shaped opals, we have created many fantastic designs using multiples stones, without making the jewellery prohibitively expensive, especially when matched with sterling silver.
We have a range of sterling silver and 14K, 18K solid gold inlay jewellery which tailor for different budget and taste.
